Independent Boatyard · Ensenada, Mexico · Since 2016

Real refit work,

La Costa Boat Works handles hull repair, fiberglass, and full-service maintenance for yacht owners, captains, and fleet managers across Southern California — at a fraction of what the same work costs in a U.S. yard.

Built by people who came up inside this industry.

La Costa Boat Works started in 2016, built on hands-on experience from established regional yards — the kind of practical knowledge that only comes from working the floor before running it.

We're not the biggest yard in Baja. We're the one that picks up the phone, gives you a straight technical answer, and stands behind the work when your boat goes back in the water.

What we do

Boatyard services

From inspection to a freshly painted hull — every stage of marine maintenance, handled in-house.

Hull, Bottom Paint & Gelcoat

Bottom paint, antifouling, topside finishing, and gelcoat application — the work that brings the most business and the work we're best at.

Fiberglass & Structural Repair

Structural fiberglass repair and hull correction for vessels up to 80 feet, evaluated and scoped before any work begins.

Marine Mechanical

Engine, running gear, and propulsion system work — diagnostics through full repair.

General Maintenance

Routine and seasonal upkeep so your vessel is ready for the water when you need it.

Modifications & Upgrades

Custom modifications and improvements scoped around what your vessel actually needs.

Carpentry & Upholstery

Custom woodwork, cabin fit-out, and upholstery — interior and deck carpentry done to the same standard as the hull.

Why Ensenada

The same skill, without the U.S. yard backlog and rate.

Southern California owners cross the border for the same reason fleets have for years — Ensenada combines a real marine workforce with pricing that turns a partial fix into a complete refit.

04

A Crew That Works Together

Common questions

What U.S. owners ask us

Straight answers to the questions we hear most from Southern California clients.

Is it safe to bring my boat to a yard in Mexico?+

Ensenada has serviced U.S.-flagged vessels for decades — it's a working port with an established marine industry. Our process is built around the standards U.S. owners expect, and most of our clients come back for repeat work.

What happens with customs when I bring my boat across?+

Owners typically bring their vessel across as a temporary import for repair, which is routine and well-documented. We can walk you through the paperwork ahead of time so there are no surprises.

How do I know the work will actually be done right?+

Every project gets a written scope and timeline before work starts. Our crew has practical experience from established regional yards, and we document progress with photos at every stage.

Can I get a quote before committing to bring my boat down?+

Yes. Send photos and a description of what your vessel needs over WhatsApp or email, and we'll give you a preliminary estimate. A final quote follows our in-person inspection once the boat is in the yard.

What size and type of vessels do you work on?+

We work on sailboats, sportfishing boats, and motor yachts up to about 80 feet. We mostly work on projects in the 30–60 foot range, but reach out regardless of size.
